  Not sure what to tell my 4 year old about Santa

  my adorable little son is very excited about christmas.

  i have not made a big thing about it, but he must have picked up the christmas spirit from what he is seeing in the shops and on tv.

  he loves the music, and movies and all the decorations.

  Paul, let him believe what he wants - one day he'll come to realisation what the truth is and he'll be fine about it, no huge damage done. We're not talking religious indoctrination, we're talking harmless myths that make childhood magical. Ham it up even by leaving snowy footprints from the reindeer (flour/oats etc) and remember the brandy, cookies and carrots must be left out for Santa and his reindeer! He'll have those specal memories forever; no doubt one day he'll even tell his children all the silly things his parents did to help him believe Santa was real.

  Even my JW parents perpetuated the tooth fairy myth - my father left me special notes with each 10p telling me what the fairies would be using my teeth for - I smile every time I remember back and bear no hard feelings toward my parents for stringing me along.

  Childhood is so short, embrace the myths!

  Recent C.O. visit: Bad news re: U.S. English meeting attendance

  visiting a nearby town during his thursday night service talk mentioned how poor meeting attendance is in the english-speaking u.s. congregations.

  he said that when the gb reduced the weekly meetings from 3 to 2, there was a brief surge in meeting attendance percentages.

  after a few months it began to slide and it hasn't stopped sliding.

  my purpose was to discuss problems with the creation book with him, since he is its main author.

  Shunning..... at Meetings ???

  can someone explain why jws shun disfellowshipped ones when they are at their meetings (i.e.

  making moves to come back)?.

  i can understand why you may not want to 'socialize' with ones who do not share your beliefs.. but surely shunning such ones at the 'meetings'; assuming they are not there to cause trouble, is unloving; should they not be welcomed like the prodigal son.. true christians are known by the 'love' they show.

  I wonder if there is an angle for complaints to the Charities Commission in the UK that their public place of worship, the Kingdom Hall - which is the address of the Registered Charity - is used as the main venue for this disgusting barabric practice?

  New Literature Arrangement

  just recently the org has changed the literature distribution to the congregation members.. the changes are:.

  1) publishers are to pick-up their mag's weekly in preparation for what they think they will use that week.

  2) group conductors shall now distribute the study article of the wt, and the km.. wonder why they have changed this?.

  Can someone just clarify for me . . . if there are no longer book studies, why is there a need for a group conductor who hands out kingdom ministries etc, are JWs still in 'groups'?

  My Father passed away during the night

  he was powerful, tall and intelligent, yet humble and kind.

  he was an introvert, and a circuit overseer.

  Paul, so sorry to hear about this. Your father sounded like a great man, a father to be proud of, who loved you dearly. Like many others have already said, it warms the heart to hear that you guys got to make some peace towards the end, that must bring you a lot of comfort right now. Much too young though, heartbreaking that the organisation stole so much from you.

  I'm sure though at the funeral, regardless of the amount of water under the bridge, that there will be some who allow their empathy to get the better of them and show kindness to you, let's hope. You're a lovely man and have helped so many, it's completely their loss that you're not in their lives.

  And your mother . . . let's hope she realises how fleeting life can be and opens her heart to you completely from now on.
